The University of Malawi’s special character will be embedded in the interplay of fivefold-values given below. These values guide and inform the strategic goals. They are the principles behind University of Malawi’s actions, a means for creating and sustaining and environment of trust and mutual understanding.
- Commitment - all should pledge to make wise use of resources available to them, including financial resources, time, ability and facilities that the institution provides.
- Professionalism - all should treat UNIMA business with concern, commitment and a sense of responsibility and apply the best possible skills, knowledge and experience to all clients.
- Integrity - trust and trustworthiness, together, must characterize words and actions as individuals and as a University. UNIMA expects that actions will be consistent with words that demonstrate honesty and ethical behavior and will address the needs of others.
- Diversity – UNIMA and individuals must build a community that fosters a climate that is open and welcoming to diverse people, ideas and perspectives; that promotes a constructive discourse on the nature of diversity; and that engages faculty, staff and students in activities that promote the University’s core values.
- Client responsiveness- In today’s fast-paced and ever-changing world of higher education UNIMA must become a network that links students, faculty, business, industry, government and community. UNIMA will think globally to shape actions, in order to better serve constituencies in its quest to realize the promises of a better world.
