The department has since its inception been offering academic courses to its own students and as a service to other programmes, for example, Public Administration.
Sociology graduates have gone on to find jobs in Human Resource Management, Social Services, Marketing and other people -oriented jobs where after appropriate training many have risen to senior positions.

To this end plans.............................................to start a Bachelor of Social work within the next 5 years with the intention of producing professional social workers for the Government and NGO sector.
