Aim Of Study:
  I) To give students a grounding in the theory and practice of
Geography and Population Education.
II) To familiarize students with the changing status of
regional studies in secondary school Geography.
III) To examine the importance of field work in
geographical studies.

Objectives Of Study:
 1. By the end of the course, students should be able to Discuss the Historical background to the regional approach in the teaching of Geography.
 2. Explain the merits and limitations of traditional and regional studies approaches.
 3. Demonstrate the case studies approach in Geography and Population Education.
 4. Examine selected sample studies included in Junior Certificate and Malawi Certificate of Education Geography syllabus.
 5. Practice active teaching and learning approaches for the teaching and learning of Geography.

Topics Of Study:
 1. A Historical review of the regional approach.
 2. The merits and limitations of traditional and regional studies approaches.
 3. The case studies approach in Geography and Population Education.
 4. Detailed study of selected sample studies included in the Junior Certificate and Malawi Certificate of Education Geography syllabuses.
 5. Active teaching and learning approaches for the teaching and learning of Geography: Group discussions, Pair work, Future's wheel, Enter educate, Drama, Games, Role play, Values clarification.
