CALL FOR APPLICATION: Elementary Statistics for Librarians & Information Professionals short course

Today’s top corporate managers need to make decisions based on tangible evidence. This evidence is generated from statistics on all the operations of an organisation. Unfortunately statistics is a hard nut to crack for many. 

The University of Malawi will conduct a short course to equip trainees with basic statistical knowledge and skills needed to successfully capture and tabulate key activities at working stations and report the same in such a way that management is able to make informed, evidence-based decisions. 

Indicative Content: 

·       Basic Definitions and Concepts; 

·       Descriptive statistics 

        - Data presentation (tables and graphs) 

        - Dispersion of data 

        - Interpretation of descriptive statistics. 

·       Inferential statistics 

        - Making estimates about populations (for example, the mean library user patronage score for the semester or month). 

       - Testing hypotheses to draw conclusions about populations (for example, the relationship between opening hours and library attendance). 

Target Audience: All Records Keeping Officers, Information Officers and Managers, Librarians, Documentalists, archivists. 

Date: 29th to 31st August, 2023 

Venue: University of Malawi, Zomba.
