EDUCATION Master of Arts (Theatre and Media Communication in Development) – 2009, University of Malawi Bachelor of Education (Humanities – Drama major) – 1993, University of Malawi Certificate in Social and Behaviour Change Communication Approaches -2019, Wits University, South Africa Certificate in Training of Trainers in Community Theatre in HIV/AIDS (organised by Health Communication Partnership – Lusaka, Zambia), 2005 WORK HISTORY Jan 2011 – present: Lecturer in Drama and Head of Drama, Fine and Performing Arts Dept., University of Malawi, Chancellor College 2002-2010: Story Workshop: Director of Programmes 1993-2002: Ministry of Education: Teacher of English/Head of Languages/Acting Deputy Headteacher, Likuni Boys’ Secondary School ABILITY TO ATTRACT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FUNDS Wrote proposal and got funding amounting to $6,500.00 from HIVOS for a project titled ‘Living Playscripts’ to be used by the Travelling Theatre for research in traditional Malawian culture, political situation and publication of two books. Two books were published as a final product of this project. These are LIVING PLAYSCRIPTS- A TRILOGY and THE CHIEF’S BLANKET AND OTHER PLAYS. 2017 Contract No. HUB SA Projects 1014796. Stage Playwriting, Directing and Acting Written over 60 stage plays; Directed over 30 plays; Acted in over 100 plays locally and internationally Radio playwriting Written weekly radio drama on Early Childhood Development titled Panazale for MBC’s Development Broadcasting Unit funded by UNICEF airing on MBC Radio 1 from November 2021 to May 2022 Written over 80 plays aired on the national radio’s most popular radio drama programmes in English, Theatre of the Air and Stories in Action Written weekly 30-minute radio serial drama for The Story Workshop from 2002 to 2003
