Profile
Cosmo Ngongondo, current Executive Dean of the School of Natural and Applied Sciences (former Faculty of Science), is a Professor of Earth Sciences in the Department of Geography, Earth Sciences and Environment at the University of Malawi. He has served as Dean since 2021 . Cosmo holds a PhD in Hydrology (Hydrological Analysis and Modelling) from the University of Oslo in Norway. He joined the University of Malawi as a Staff Associate in June 2000, immediately just after completing his undergraduate studies. His research interests are in the scientific assessments of the impacts of climate change in key areas such as water resources, forestry, agricultural production and human health. He is the current Chief Editor of the Malawi Journal of Science and Technology (MJST), Managing Executive Guest Editor of the Journal of the Physics and Chemistry of the Earth (JPCE) WaterNet Symposium Special Issue, Guest Editor of Hydrology Research Journal and a member of the Editorial Board of the African Journal of Climate Studies . Due to his research work, he received the 2013 African Union-The World Academy of Sciences (AU-TWAS) Young Scientists National Award in the Earth and Life Sciences category. Cosmo is: a Director of the Board of Trustees of WaterNet since 2018; a member of the Southern Africa Network of Water Centres of Excellence (SANWATCE); and a Commissioner for the Malawi National Commission for Science and Technology. He is an External Examiner for the following Universities: Technical University of Kenya (TUK); Western Cape, North West and Stellenbosch in South Africa; Botswana; Mauritius; Zimbabwe; Midrands State University (Zimbabwe), Chinhoyi University of of Technology, Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA), Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR); Mzuzu University and the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST)
